Our take: Yes. YES. This is what we want! A quick-and-dirty tool for composing songs: just a handful of instruments, a piano roll, and a drum machine, in the browser, synchronized. In fact, we've tried to build this a number of times, but we couldn't get it quite right. But Tanner got it exactly right, with a little help from Replit. This is why we write reviews and you guys build products: even with AI, it isn't as easy as it looks!
But Grriidd makes it look easy. When you change the instrument, the playback changes in real time with the tiniest of delays. After you compose your melody you can change the key - which is an awesome way to create unexpected lines. And if you're willing to sign in (not necessary to use the main DAW) you can even save your compositions to disk.We had a little trouble with this feature, but it's a great idea for sharing quick tracks with friends. EDIT: Since we first wrote this, we reached out to Tanner and the save function is fixed! That's customer service!
