Description
Our take: Do you love classic video games? How about kitties? By our calculations, roughly 72.3% of the population sits at the intersection of these two passions. And yet, there's nowhere to play retro video games remixed with a pervasive cat theme. Until now.
99 Cat Games is an effort to vibe code a wide variety of classic games - 99 eventually, 13 at the time of this review - in cat format. Does it scratch the itch? We'll be honest - some of these games are better executed than others. All in all the games could use a little more polish. But they do play, and they are purrfectly cute.
We hope to see this project continue - it's a really fun example of what you can build with a little creativity and a few AI tools.
Their spin: This is a project where one lone human hopes use the magic of AI coding to create, from scratch, 99 games featuring cats.
Games about cats, about the cat experience, or games where we're just swapping in a cat for a human or whatever.
Retro games didn't rely on extensive graphics or lengthy cinematic cut scenes. They were good games in their own right, leveraging the imagination, with iconic titles packed into sometimes 17KB or less.
